Grape Leaf Beetle On The Move
Bob and I were out hiking on the edge of a forest in Ontario, Canada, when we came upon this intriguing-looking insect called a Grape Leaf Beetle.
At first, the Grape Leaf Beetle startled us. Using an app on our phone that identified the Beetle, we learned that it does not bite or sting.
Grape Leaf Beetles only live for about a month at this adult stage in their lives.
No grapevines were evident in the area, and yet Grape Leaf Beetles, as the name suggests, only eat grapevine leaves. Because these beetles do not cause much damage to grapevines, very little effort is made to control them in vineyards.
Grape Leaf Beetles lay their eggs under fallen tree trunks and old stumps. It sure was an interesting insect to see and observe.
