When visiting Cape Town, South Africa, Bob and I set aside one morning to explore the plateau called Table Mountain. This flat-topped mountain is recognized worldwide and is easily visible from every part of the capital city. Fynbos and fantastic views on Table Mountain were part of the draw for Bob and me.
Sandbanks Provincial Park is a park in Ontario known for its sand dunes and sandy beaches. Late the afternoon before our planned hike in the dunes, Bob had taken a quick peak at the dune system from Dunes Beach. Read more
Bob and I had never visited or gone canoeing in Sandbanks Provincial Park in Ontario before 2022. As the coronavirus pandemic persisted, we decided to do a staycation by exploring this rare gem in Prince Edward County not too far from our home. Read more
After our flight from Toronto to Regina, Bob and I drove directly to Grasslands National Park near the southern border of Saskatchewan. We were determined to complete a hike in the East Block of this Park and opted to do the Valley of 1000 Devils Route before traveling further west to Val Marie on the edge of the Park’s West Block. After several hours of bird watching at Long Point Bird Observatory in Ontario, Bob and I decided to check out another location, Crown Marsh, before heading off for dinner. A lengthy walk there on Long Point Trail 6 had us coming across this substantial Melanistic Eastern Garter Snake. Read more
One of my favourite animals seen when visiting South Africa was the tall, elegant South African Giraffe. Also known as the Cape Giraffe, Bob and I came across these gentle giants on several occasions as we toured Kruger National Park, and it was always a pleasure to sit and observe them. Read more
Our stay at the Quirpon Lighthouse Inn on Quirpon Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, promised a unique and fascinating experience. The location is well written up as one of the five most remote and harshest places to visit and to stay anywhere in the world. Right there, we were hooked on the idea! Read more
Lynde Shores Conservation Area in Whitby, Ontario has all the trappings of Christmas this year.
For the second visit in a row at my mom’s place, a tour of the gardens was in order, and both times found me without the camera that usually hangs around my neck. A mad dash to the house to alert Bob and to grab my camera had me ready to photograph this stunning Snowberry Clearwing Moth as it flitted from flower to flower. Read more
