When visiting Northern Ireland, Bob and I spent the early part of one afternoon exploring Giant’s Causeway before we ventured a little further along the coast to Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, an attraction that would test our resolve and sense of balance. Read more

Our bike ride on Inishmore Island

rental bikes on inishmore island, ireland, pic 2

Bob and I had spent the early part of one morning touring the ancient fort, Dun Aonghasa, and photographing the wide variety of wildflowers at that location, so by the time we returned to our accommodations at Kilmurvey House, our rental bikes were ready and waiting for us.  A quick stop at the nearby cafe afforded us some sandwiches and apples that were tucked into our backpacks before setting off on our bike ride on Inishmore Island. Shoreline Ice at Tommy Thompson Park

Shoreline Ice at Tommy Thompson Park
shoreline ice at tommy thompson park, toronto, ontario, 7

On our one and only outing to Tommy Thompson Park this past winter, Bob and I felt like kids let out of school for the summer.  It was a pleasantly warm, sunny day…typical March weather with a persistent wind out of the north that threatened to chill us to the bone if it weren’t for the strong rays of the sun beating down on our backs.  Still, winter had its icy grip on Toronto’s lakeshore. The Victorian Walled Garden at Kylemore Abbey, Ireland

An image of the Walled Victorian Gardens at Kylemore Abbey in County Galway, Ireland. Photography by Frame To Frame - Bob and Jean.

The grandeur of Kylemore Abbey extends well beyond the opulence of the original Castle to the expansive Victorian Walled Garden that rises from the heretofore boggy moorland in County Galway, Ireland.  It is a magnificent example of what can be achieved when creative engineering is combined with tenacity and inspiration. A slow tour of the Connemara region in County Galway was our aim after leaving County Mayo.  Its mix of blanket bogs, lakes, mountains and moorlands is reputed to be awe-inspiring and unspoilt, a perfect example of natural beauty.  Bob and I were off the sheets early to an already wet morning, and rain was expected to settle in for the day.  Our route to Ros an Mhil (Rossaveal) was undecided, but we intended to catch a ferryboat at noon, that is until we rounded a corner and were brought up short by the jaw-dropping beauty of Kylemore Abbey. Waves breaking on Lake Ontario at Sunnyside in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

On a winter morning, Bob and I left our house to scope out Colonel Samuel Smith Park at the edge of Lake Ontario.  We were on the hunt for some Snowy Owls that had been seen there a couple of days earlier.  We had no idea that, later that same day, surging waves driven by gale-force winds would be battering the Toronto waterfront. Magical Frost On My Toronto Windowpane

frost forms on a window pane - toronto 3

In 2014, the province of Ontario had one of the longest and coldest bouts of winter weather to be experienced in recent years, decades even, and along with the pristine beauty of fresh powdered snow that had fallen into every crack and crevice came the magical frost on my Toronto windowpane. Titanic’s Last Anchorage – Our Visit To Cobh Town

RMS Titanic leaving Belfast harbour in 1912

Bob and I awoke to a fine drizzle the next morning, so rather than pursue the harbour boat tour first off, we headed to The Titanic Experience where visitors are invited to retrace the footsteps of the Queenstown passengers who boarded the Titanic on its maiden voyage.  Cobh was known as Queenstown from 1850 until 1920. Visiting Machu Picchu, Our Long Time Dream

An image of foggy sky over Machu Picchu in Urubamba Province, Peru.

Bob and I managed to get aboard the first bus of the day from Aguas Calientes up to Machu Picchu.  The 20-minute bus ride up the switchbacks of the dirt road had us clinging to our seats whenever we rounded the sharp corners.  The other option for getting to Machu Picchu is to hike up the mountain, but it is supposed to be a pretty long and very tough climb.  We preferred to use that time to explore the ruins at the top.
