After a hearty breakfast on this, our second-to-last day in London, England, Bob, our son, and I hopped aboard a double-decker bus to catch a ride over to Camden Town, a thriving tourist area made up of markets. What we did not realize was that many are set up in the catacombs around Regent’s Canal. We were soon wowed by the canals and catacombs in Camden Town! Read more

Heat Stroke at Augrabies Falls National Park

Southern Ground Hornbill Encounter In Kruger Park
Waking at Skukuza Rest Camp the first morning after our arrival, and having just coped with a bout of stomach and intestinal distress, I was in no shape for any physical activity requiring stamina. Rich Nautical Nostalgia in Bowness-on-Windermere, England
Moving further into England’s Lake District after hiking up Wansfell Pike put Bob and me at the heart of Lake District National Park. Our family savoured a delightful lunch on the patio of our next lodgings with gourmet terrines, fruit, cheese and pastries that we bought from a deli shop in Ambleside. Duly nourished, we walked down to the harbour-side pavilions at Bowness Pier, and what a sight that was to behold. The rich nautical nostalgia in Bowness-on-Windermere really struck a chord with Bob and me. Read more
Discovering Sociable Weaver Nests in South Africa
Discovering Sociable Weaver nests in South Africa was the highlight of our drive from Cape Town to Upington. In a rather barren and very arid stretch of landscape, the nests stood out as quite unusual constructions on thin utility poles that looked like they would snap under the weight. Read more

Flamboyant Flowers on the Beach, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand
After the previous day’s wet hike on the Taranaki Falls Trail in Mt. Tongariro National Park, both Bob and I came down with colds. It was time for some R&R and a slower paced couple of days before we made the ferry crossing to New Zealand’s South Island. Absolute Beachfront B&B in Napier made a good spot for just that. Masses of flamboyant flowers on the beach were just waiting to be discovered by Bob and me.
