Bob and I were able to observe a group of Pine Grosbeaks on a visit to Oxtongue Lake, in Ontario. What a marvelous opportunity to study their behavior and also take a few pictures. Much like Gray Jays, Pine Grosbeaks are not put off by people, and actually are very easy to approach. Read more
After finishing our adventure into the Amazon, Bob and I flew back to Cusco, the former Inca capital in Peru. After getting checked into our hotel, we walked over to the Plaza de Armas, which is featured in the centre of this photo. This square, seen here surrounded by various different church steeples, was once the hub of the Inca Empire. It was here in this mountain valley, in the exact middle of Plaza de Armas, that the Inca people believed that the centre of the universe and all power on earth was focused. Given the success of their Empire before the Spanish arrived, it’s not hard to understand why they believed that. Read more

With fall drawing to a quick close, Bob and I took advantage of the weather for one last autumn hike in Algonquin Provincial Park, in Ontario. We are always on the search for wildlife so were pleased to come upon a Ruffed Grouse.

There sat a Barred Owl that had seen us coming. Read more

Those would be squirrels. This chipmunk is a member of the squirrel family, and this little guy lives in the trees around my parents’ home at Oxtongue Lake, in Ontario, Canada. Read more
On a windy, snowy day in Ontario, Bob and I headed north towards Algonquin Provincial Park on one of our frequent treks in that direction. It was a particularly stormy day as we navigated the highway, and, as always, we were watching for wildlife. But suddenly we came upon a group of Eastern wild turkey’s on the road. Read more
Bob and I went for a walk one afternoon in Milliken Park, here in Toronto, Ontario, and by chance, we spotted a Northern Saw-Whet Owl (Aegolius acadicus) at rest in the thick brush. I had never seen an owl in the wild before, and certainly not one in such close proximity. We have frequented this park for years, and this was the first time we were lucky enough to catch sight of an owl. Read more
